How the Vermont rule works
Vermont has no statute on vacation payout, but the state labor department holds employers to their own written policies. A handbook or agreement that provides paid vacation makes the employer liable for the promised benefit at separation. Employers are not required to provide vacation or severance; final wages after a discharge are due within 72 hours under 21 V.S.A. §342.
